Introducing Functional Safety in Radio Remote Controls for Lifting Applications

Explaining in a few lines the safety features of wireless control systems for industrial and hoisting machines is not a simple task. We could borrow an example from a familiar field: cars. You may drive your car for years without needing the Airbag safety system. In fact, you may not even know whether the car you bought has an Airbag or not. They will only truly be appreciated on the day you need it.
The same goes for safety in wireless control system: when you need it, it has an inestimable value. Availability of industrial safe solutions, and the growing awareness of the unquestionable advantages they bring fostered the employment of such systems as “standard devices”. Standards and laws greatly developed, and internationally shared criteria have been established, that allow to evaluate the appropriate safety levels.
In order to choose the appropriate wireless control for handling and hoisting machines you therefore need to be familiar with the different aspects of such devices, and detect as a first step the safety requirements needed in the system.
Such knowledge is even more important in a global market, where the available wireless control systems are very different from one another, and are not always responding adequately to the risk analysis required by the application.
