Axon’ innovation : PTFE insulated bare copper wires without oxidation
A manufacturing process which allows for the insulation of bare copper wires with PTFE without oxidizing them. This is the latest Axon’ Cable’s innovation dedicated to any application working under temperatures of 200°C. The new patented process allows for extruded PTFE on a conductive copper core without damaging the surface of the conductor. It avoids oxidation and helps preserve the qualities of copper for a good connection.
A more economical alternative
Until now, only bare copper wires insulated with silicone or thermoplastic insulating materials such as PFA have enjoyed a manufacturing process which did not oxidize copper. However, this is no longer true. The new Axon’ process allows for a more economical alternative than bare copper wires insulated with PFA. PTFE is cheaper than PFA for the same heat performance. The other advantage of this patented process is that it does not require silver or nickel plating on copper to protect the conductor from oxidation.
A high performance insulating material
PTFE is not only a good electrical insulating material but has also a very good chemical resistance. PTFE is chemically inert and self-extinguishing. It also resists abrasion. Unlike thermoplastic materials such as PFA, PTFE does not melt and can resist a soldering iron at 350°C. It also allows for very thin insulation thicknesses compared to silicone insulated wires.
PTFE insulated bare copper wires are an ideal solution for applications working under 200°C such as electrical appliances (oven, cooking plate, boiler’s burner) and automotive (engines).
