Cable-pulls have proved a practice-oriented solution in long-distance measurement. By pulling in and out a cable they transform linear movements into rotary ones. Depending on the application, these rotary movements may be used as drive for an incremental or absolute encoder and for display and evaluation by digital display respectively control. Cable-pull encoders are above all convincing by versatility, convenient mounting as well as reliability even under extreme ambient conditions and last but not least by their visualized function principle.
Typical applications for cable-pull encoders can be found in almost every industry branch. Surely the focus is on positioning of lifting devices, professional crane, drilling and industrial excavator plants as well as conveying systems. However there are many more possibilities also at plastic moulding machines, punches, professional presses, test stands, theatre stages and floodgates. Outdoor use is neither a problem, if required the cable-pull allows detouring and use in liquids or at high temperatures. Combined with incremental or manufacturer of absolute encoders it is an efficient and in addition rather reasonably priced measuring system that adapts perfectly to the requirements of the respective application. The BaumerIVO cable-pulls for example may be combined with different encoders and thus are even fieldbus capable. All designs ensure an excellent linearity rating for their complete service life of about 5 million strokes.
