The smdx98 ("the big brother of the smdx66) power drive represents an entirely new power
drive generation. State-of-the-art electronic components such
as digital signal processors (DSP) and completely new
current control algorithms made it possible to significantly
reduce the product cost. Still the main focus was to achieve
excellent running performance such as low resonance run,
high step angle accuracy and high and constant output torque
from step to step. This was realized with a very precise and
fully digital phase current control with direct current
measurement in the motor windings. If required and upon
request other step resolutions are possible. With the same
hardware platform all 2 phase stepper or 3 phase stepper can
be operated. The smdx98 is offered in different versions for
optimized application cost efficiency. There is an OEM
version (PCB only) for the volume business e.g. operation
inside a customer device, then there is an open frame version
with mounting bracket and for EMI relevant applications
even a version with housing. An optional heat sink can be
retrofitted should it be required. The device is preferably wall
mount to the control cabinet panel. A DIN-rail clip is
available for easy snap on DIN-rail mounting. The smdx98
covers almost the entire 2 phase stepper and 3 phase stepper
range within the NEMA23 (motor flange size 56mm) and the
NEMA34 range (motor flange size 86mm).
