High performance sortation for large-size items

High performance sortation for large-size items

Huge parcels - an easy job for the BEUMER vertical belt sorter:

In distribution centres, the BEUMER vertical belt sorter transports and distributes large parcels gently, fast and with maximum accuracy for courier, express and parcel services. The tilt elements of the electronically controlled sorter form a nearly closed surface. This avoids jamming of the parcels. The steel wire belt ensures a low-noise and energy-efficient transport. The vertical belt sorter offered by the BEUMER group, specialised in intralogistics and headquartered in Beckum, is a space-saving and economic sortation solution.

When standard sortation systems reach their spatial limits, the BEUMER vertical belt sorter is the first choice. It is used for sorting large parcels even in space-limited facilities of courier, express and parcel services as well as distribution centres and forwarding agencies. The parcels may have a length of 2.5 m, a width of 1 m and a weight of 60 kg. With suitable friction characteristics, parcels suitable for tilt tray sorters are measured by a photocell during the induction process. Larger parcels can occupy up to three trays. The sorter reaches a speed of up to 1.6 m/s and sorts up to 7,200 items/h.

The vertical belt sorter combines both the advantages of space-saving linear sorters and the advantages of tilt tray sorters. The nearly closed surface avoids jamming of long or large parcels and enables sortation with low noise. The drive and return station can be fitted with a noise-reduction system. Depending on routing and requirements, overhead inductions and cross inductions are possible. And, with cross inductions, the parcels can be fed at several points of the sorter.

When designing the vertical belt sorter, BEUMER combined components from sortation technology, such as rail, carriage and tilt trays with field-proven components from conveying technology, such as steel wire belt, take-up station and take-up distance control device. The steel wire belt is driven by a drive pulley linked to a three-phase asynchronous motor.

The tilt elements are powered by the patented contactless energy supply system. Each tilt element is equipped with its own control unit, allowing an individual control. The modular structure of the BEUMER sortation and distribution systems enables customised solutions that can be implemented quickly and simply.
