Ostermann GmbH in Witten-Annen is the biggest furniture store in the Ruhr. It has commissioned Dematic with the modernization of its 16 year-old high-bay industrial warehouse. This four-aisle, high-bay warehouse is 37 meters high and 95 meters long. It is equipped with Dematic stacker cranes that have overlength load lifting forks. The warehouse operation is based on bays organized for double-depth storage of special furniture pallets. This allows all the furniture items in each customer order to be brought together and dispatched on schedule. The modernization will involve replacing the entire control and drive technology of the stacker industrial cranes and the control of the conveyor supplier systems - including the material flow calculators, with state-of-the art equipment. Ostermann's main reason for modernizing is to improve throughput and availability over the next 15 years.
