Early fire detection with thermal imaging cameras in forested areas DIAS Infrared
n the National Park Pirin in Bulgaria a DIAS fire detection system PYROVIEW / PYROSOFT FDS has been installed.
This system consists of three infrared cameras in special weatherproof housings, each paired with a visual camera. The weatherproof housing are mounted on pan-tilt heads. The system is equipped with the appropriate control hardware and software. The units were mounted on 20 m high towers that were specially built for this purpose. The park area of “Vihren” on an area about 9000 ha is followed by the units at day and night without interruption.
The installed DIAS Infrared system triggers alarm if safe limits are exceeded. With the project the pilot phase of the overall strategy for sustainable forest management and environmental protection in the area of the Pirin National Park was initiated. The strategy includes the extension of the fire detection system to other areas of the national park.
