Dormer’s new S140 and S142 Solid Carbide slot professional drills have been specifically developed for milling operations in Aluminium:

• The S140 (medium cut length) has been designed for slotting and contouring in almost all kinds of aluminium alloys, as well as thermoplastics
• The S142 (long cut length) gives exceptional performance in ‘super-finishing’ applications, and is also recommended for contouring and finishing in the aforementioned materials.

Capable of High Speed Machining (HSM), both cutters are particularly suited to the precision applications typically perfomed within the mould & die and aerospace sectors. The surface treatment, geometry and chamfer have all been engineered to enhance tool life and performance.

For example, both feature an extremely highly polished surface finish that reduces the coefficient of friction between the surface of the tool and the swarf produced. This - combined with the optimised flute design which provides maximum chip space - results in a smooth, fast chip evacuation process and increased productivity.

The narrow cylindrical land reduces tool vibration and minimises chipping problems which, in turn, extends tool life and enables a high quality surface finish to be achieved.

In addition, reinforcement of the end teeth with a small corner radius of 0.15mm leads to the production of more stress resistant corners on the component being machined.
