The S256 is the first solid carbide end mill manufacturers developed by Dormer specifically for the machining of Stainless Steels and Exotic Alloys. Adding to their extensive range of high performance, material specific tools, the S256 can be used across a wide range of applications, from roughing to finishing.
Featuring a concept already used to great effect, the S256’s unequal helix angle has been specifically calculated for the optimum machining of Stainless Steel, and brings numerous benefits:
• A reduction in tool vibration, resulting in less wear on the tool and improved surface finish on the workpiece
• Minimal tool deflection, allowing increased positional accuracy
• Greater axial and radial depths can be achieved at high cutting parameters
Numerous additional elements increase the productivity and tool life capabilities of the S256. For example, the special tapered design of the web combines the benefits of maximum rigidity with maximum space for efficient chip removal, reducing machine downtime.
Reinforcement of the chamfer and the rake angle creates a strong geometry which reduces chip problems even when subjected to the hostile working conditions often encountered with Stainless Steels.
The S256 also features the new X-CEED mono-layer coating. Exhibiting high hardness properties and resistance to abrasion – even at extremely high cutting speeds – the result is longer tool life and higher productivity.
