Press release from EPSON Factory Automation - 2007-10-31

New ‚High-end’ SCARA von Epson

EPSON DEUTSCHLAND GmbH has been successful operating in the industrial professional robot (assembly) sector for several decades. As everyone in the market place knows, the machines are a prime example of reliability, which underscores the company’s claim to be the provider of premium brands. It is this ambition that has put the new model from the Epson SCARA family right at the top from the start. The new E2H lives up to the real meaning of the word by being able to handle a payload of up to 20 kg, which puts it way above the remaining assembly robotics. Epson has produced this ‘muscle-man’ by fitting considerably stronger motors, which give it a visibly faster working speed whilst still being able to realise the same high precision. The new machine is also available in clean-room and antistatic versions in addition to the standard model.

The new Epson E2H offers a maximum payload of 20 kg at even faster speeds. The new machine is also available in clean-room and antistatic versions. Both of the two compact control systems that can be used with the machine follow the well-proven “Easy to use” concept and provide room for installing the fully integrated EPSON VISION GUIDE image processing system.

The well-proven arm-geometry used by the other Epson Scara robots is also integrated in the new E2H model. Arm lengths of 500 mm for the first arm and 350 mm for the second arm gives a maximum reach of 850 mm, which means that it can cover a wide working area. The optimised arm ratio of 1:1.43 means that it can cover the majority of its working area with minimum movement of both main axes.

New and well proven in a solid combinationThe motor power to selected axes has been increased by up to 100% as compared to previous models. This effectively generates double the torque for the fourth axis in addition to the clear increase in speed – therefore the new machine can easily and quickly negotiate heavy loads, especially protruding loads. The clean-room version, which is available as an option, can also be supplied as an antistatic version and this expands its capability so that it can be used in electronic and clean-room applications up to class 10.

Proven control system for easy conversions

The well-proven and recognised systems are used as the controllers. Like its predecessors, you can chose to connect up the new EPSON E2H to one of two different EPSON control systems, which then make it possible to use the machine with additional options such as Epson Vision and supply conveyor manufacturer tracking.
