Intelligent welding application at BOMAG with FANUC robots
In July 2006, FANUC Robotics Germany partner Eurob (www.eurob-gmbh.de) sold an impressive arc brazing cell based on Lincoln arc technology to Bomag.
The customer is market leader in construction equipments and was using up to this point only CLOOS welding systems. The installation was started in January 2007 and produces 5-Ton rolls street milling rolls.
It consists in 17 axes including 2 arc welding robotics Arc Mate 120iB and 5 additional axes, all controlled by a single controller. This installation is purely unique thanks to following features:
- dual drive,
- dual arm TAST (Through-Arc Seam Tracking)
- dual arm Touch Sensing
- multi pass welding
- Lincoln tandem welding
In order to get an optimum welding position of the tray, the complete installation can swing by +/-45 deg. When installed at the customer’s site, a part of the installation simply disappears on the floor.
The results are really impressive: 360deg welding lasts only 35 minutes!
The main reason for choosing FANUC professional robots coupled with Lincoln powersource was speed: this combination is 30% faster during the welding process (tandem MIG) than the CLOOS system.
Due to the very positive results, Bomag is planning to install further cells with FANUC and Lincoln. The next 2007 project is already on the way with EuRob.
