Having spent more than 10 years completing accident reconstructions, specialist Micky Gilbert has established himself as an expert in the field, due in part to his commitment to employing cutting edge technology to complete his inspections.

Documenting a vehicle rollover used to take Micky and his team at Gilbert Engineering hours using a total station. That was before Gilbert Engineering acquired a FARO Laser Scanner. Micky and his team now typically spend only 30 minutes documenting damage to a rollover vehicle – and have more than 700 million data points to show for it.

The digital archive allows the specialists at Gilbert Engineering to compare the damaged vehicles to the original CAD drawings to determine the amount of deformation to the vehicle. The data from the scanner is easily opened in several modeling softwares – Gilbert uses Polyworks – giving Gilbert Engineering the advantage of producing models or visualizations of the accident.

The rapid rate of digital download and extreme detail collected by the FARO Laser Scanner allow the specialists at Gilbert Engineering to accurately recreate accidents quickly and effectively. The 3-D detail permits Micky the ability to fly jurors into the scene of the accident for a more realistic account.
