New ultrasonic transducers for measuring flow under demanding conditions

FLEXIM presents innovative ultrasonic flow transducers which further widen the scope of the non-intrusive technology. Doing this, FLEXIM does not only complete its range of ultrasonic clamp-on transducers but also consolidate its position as the supplier that covers the widest range of applications.

The ultrasonic transducers of the FLUXUS flowmeters cover the nominal diameter range from DN6 to DN6500. The new types presented mark the consistent implementation of FLEXIM's integral transducer concept which now includes dependable solutions for flow measurement under demanding conditions: in explosion hazard areas, under water, and in high temperature environments.

There are now explosion-protected and immersion-proof IP68 versions of almost all transducer types - for flow measurement of fluids as well as of gases. Combining explosion protection and waterproofness does make sense, for instance whenever flow metering systems are installed in mines or drains where the risk of flooding is as present as the danger of explosive media emerging from leaks. Typical applications include explosion-hazard areas in sewage treatment plants and the subterranean natural gas pipelines. It is one of the well-known advantages of non-intrusive technology that systems can be easily installed on existing equipment without any need for cutting into the pipe and interrupting operations. The new waterproof IP68 transducers reduce the effort involved in installing flow meters in the soil to a minimum because no shaft needs to be built. Permanent coupling pads ensure non-wearing acoustic coupling and, consequently, permanently reliable measuring functionality. Following a measurement engineer's idea of a perfect measuring instrument, we might say: bury it and forget it.
