New machining centres previewed » FOM presents "AXEL" Fom Industrie
Axel incorporates the outcome of years of Fom Industrie research into machining centres for processing aluminium profiles, encapsulating all the technological and construction know-how the company has built up over time. Axel has a head with bidirectional rotation entirely controlled by a series of ground gearings, which carry a 12.5 kW electric spindle, featuring a liquid cooling system with 6 nozzles to cool the tools with no peripheral pipelines. The tool magazine has 20 stations and is also able to house disc milling tools and angular drive units if required. The longitudinal positioning of the workpiece clamping vices is numerically controlled. The machine is programmed by means of simple, flexible software, capable of assuring the user full control of the production process at all times. Collision risk verification, precision simulation of processes and monitoring for tool damage and of temperature reduce the need for additional physical inspections of machined pieces. To further reduce machining programming times, FST (the group software house) has developed FST Solid, an importer for three-dimensional files generated by the most commonly used commercial 3D CAD systems, capable of recognising all the processes on the piece and generating the relative working programme automatically; the operator has only to associate the technical parameters to the individual machining operation.
