Encoders from POSITAL's MAGNETOCODE series are available as MDW versions with an integrated draw wire adapter, which makes them ideally suited for use in medical technology. The draw wire adapter is encased in a plastic housing measuring 56 x 46 mm. With an overall length of merely 70 mm, the extremely compact system thus qualifies for use in applications with limited installation space. The units can be used e.g. in patient positioning and to con-trol or monitor CT scanners or other imaging systems.

The system provides magnetic, touch-free distance measurement at a 35 µm resolution. The maximum measurement length of 2 m is sufficient for virtually all medical technology applications. A serial SSI interface, which allows users to connect the units directly to control systems, ensures electrical connection. The standardized interface also enables the direct connection to microcontrollers in embedded systems. The measured length value is instantly available for digital processing, requiring no imprecise analog/digital conversion. Originally developed for industrial applications, the units are especially wear-resistant: stress tests have shown that the absolute accuracy of the distance measurement systems remains the same even after the draw wire has been extended one million times
