GIS AG opts for ECO-Power GIS

  • GIS AG opts for ECO-Power
With an annual production volume of about 10,000 electric chain hoists, GIS AG of Schötz, Switzerland, is a technology leader in the manufacture of small crane systems. Starting on 1 August 2011, the entire company will be supplied exclusively with eco-power generated from local hydro-energy. This pioneering decision to opt for sustainable energy production comes at a difficult time for Switzerland's exporters. Nevertheless, outstanding product quality and an excellent cost-to-benefit ratio (in spite of the strong Swiss franc) provide a sound basis for our company to pursue a path of ecological development that is geared to the future.
GIS AG was founded in 1957 by the brothers Alex and Beda Iseli (which explains the company name: GIS = Gebrüder (Brothers) Iseli Schötz). Back then, they specialized in precision mechanical products. GIS already enjoyed a reputation for quality and reliability when the firm's first electric chain hoist – developed and manufactured in-house – was launched on the market in 1963. This was followed by a range of different models, and the current successor generation, GIS CH (GIS Chain Hoist) also bears witness to the company's core expertise in the field of small crane systems.
We systematically expanded our global sales network and now we have an export presence in more than 50 countries, with sales partners in Europe, Asia, Australia and South, Central and North America (including Canada). GIS AG was acquired by Grapha Holding AG in 1988. This step led to an expansion of our production facilities, and nowadays GIS AG employs a workforce of almost 100. We set great store by apprentice training and the personal development of everyone employed at the firm, where young people can embark on their career journeys as commercial specialists, design engineers or polytechnicians.
Our entire range consists exclusively of genuine Swiss products which always meet the market's latest quality standards. Rigorous inspections ensure that their functionality and quality remain constantly high. In 1995, we were awarded the SN EN ISO 9001 certificate, which attests the consistent implementation of our quality system – in compliance with the standard – in the areas of development, production, assembly and customer service. Since then, our company has been re-certified at three-year intervals, most recently in March 2010. Extremely rapid throughput times for manufactured parts and speedy reaction times to meet short deadlines are also key "trademarks" of our operation. We are able to maintain these standards thanks to our modern production facilities and because the entire production process, from design engineering and manufacture through to the assembly of the electric chain hoists, takes place in Schötz.
Here at GIS AG, we believe that there are two aspects to sustainability: one is long-term collaboration with our customers and partners, and the other is the careful use of resources, which is also a matter of great importance. Accordingly, the entire company will be supplied exclusively with eco-power generated from local hydro-energy as of 1 August 2011.
