EMO Vital to Haas Marketing Strategy
Hall 27 - Booth D05

Haas Automation began 2011 with a new marketing strategy created to capitalise on the global upswing in manufacturing investment and launch several new and innovative products, designed over the preceding two years. As a result, 2011 has been one of the busiest marketing periods in the company’s history, and has included the enormously successful HaasTec open house at the company’s factory in California, the Europe-wide launch tour of the DS-30 Y-series of turning centres, and dozens of opening events for new European Haas Factory Outlets (HFOs) and Haas Technical Education Centres (HTECs). This increased investment in marketing is set to continue throughout 2011, and for a long time after.

“EMO 2011 is a very important show for Haas and for the industry in general,” says Haas Europe Director of Marketing, Mrs. Katja Mader. “However, mindful of the economic divisions between some European countries, we have also invested heavily to find new and creative ways to communicate with our customers in all countries, year-round. The HaasTec event at our factory was supported by 25 well-known vendor companies from the industry and attracted well over 2000 visitors, including hundreds from Europe. The DS-30 Y launch tour included events in 20 different locations and was an incredibly effective way to meet customers near to their homes and their businesses.”

The Haas Automation booth at EMO 2011 will feature several of the new-generation Haas machines, including the dual-spindle DS-30Y CNC turning centre. Alongside will be two Haas lathes that never have been on show in Europe: the ST-10 and ST-40. Also the DT-1 Drill Tap machine and several examples of the latest-generation vertical machining centres will be cutting.

The Haas DS-30 Series Y-axis turning centres combine dual-spindle turning with Y-axis, C axis, and live tooling to create powerful ‘done-in-one’ machining solutions. The opposed spindles support fully synchronized turning and allow on-the-fly part pass-off to reduce cycle times.

The ST-10 and ST-40 are the latest in the range of completely re-engineered Haas lathes and will make their European show debut at EMO 2011. The ST-40, available for purchase after EMO, offers 648 x 1118 mm maximum capacity, 1016 mm of swing and a 30 kW vector drive and 2-speed gearbox providing 2400rpm. Its little brother, the ST-10 is already for sale. It is a very compact CNC turning centre with a maximum capacity of 356 x 356 mm and 413 mm of swing. It has a 11.2 kW vector drive giving 6000 rpm as standard.

The Haas DT-1 is a high-speed drill and tap machine with full CNC milling capabilities and is undoubtedly one of the company’s most exciting innovations. It has a 508mm x 406mm x 394mm work area and a 660mm x 381mm T-slot table. A powerful 30-taper spindle provides 15,000rpm and allows tapping at speeds of up to 5000rpm. The DT-1 also comes with a high-speed 20-pocket tool changer and rapids of 61m/min on all axes. With high acceleration and deceleration rates, cycle times are kept short and non-cutting time is reduced. The DT-1 is the perfect all-round CNC machine tool for the busy general-machining workshop.

The latest Haas high-speed VF-SS models benefit from several productivity-enhancing innovations, including enhanced motion control, better chip evacuation and improved coolant containment. The new VF machines have also been given a bold and contemporary redesign, plus better fit, feel and ergonomics, to make operation easier and more efficient.

“As well as the latest machine tools, we’ll also exhibit some of Haas’ many, high-productivity, CNC rotary products,” adds Mrs. Mader. “These are descendents of the products that more than 25 years ago established the company’s reputation for low-cost, reliable innovation. Many people perhaps do not realise that Haas sells more CNC rotary indexers than almost any other company in the industry.”

One thing that cannot be exhibited at EMO is Haas’ continued investment in arguably the most consistent and responsive customer service and support in the CNC machine tool industry. “Everyone knows that you find the world’s best customer service in California,” says Katja Mader.

“Since the late 1980’s, Haas has brought this same customer-is-king attitude to machine tools and has positively influenced industry standards in every industrial nation where we sell our products. All of our HFOs have fully equipped, rapid-response service vans and a huge stock of consigned spare parts. We aim to have a part with the customer the day after a request is made. If a machine needs technical attention for any reason, the majority of our HFOs are located so that a technician can be on-site within 2-hours.”
