Press release from HATZ DIESEL - 2007-08-30

Demand for compact and powerful small diesels is on the rise: HATZ supplements the Series 1B.. with two more engines

As early as the successful launch of the engine variants 1B20, 1B30 and
IB40, HATZ in Ruhstorf was already scheduling a logical extension to the
range. In the Lane and Garden sector in particular, where the new series
of engines was proving very successful in securing new market shares, a
more powerful engine than the 1B40 was needed.
And now HATZ can offer not only a new 1B50 with 516 cm³ displacement, but also a new 1B27, which at 4.0 kW fits neatly in terms of power output between the 1B20 and the 1B30.
Dipl.-Ing. Univ. Jürgen Kempf, Manager of the Engine Design Department
at HATZ, has this to say about the extension to the tried and trusted range: “There has been a lot of customer demand for the 1B50, primarily from the ‘Green Sector’. The people who use these compact engines need a higher capacity for some tasks, and that’s where the 1B50 fits precisely into the picture.”
The external dimensions of both engines are identical to the
corresponding construction size; in other words, the OEMs will have no trouble at all in replacing them. 1B50 and 1B27 are also optionally available with vertical shafts.
The 1B50 is offered only in the EPA variant, while with the 1B27 there is an EPA and a non-EPA version.

Technical improvements also incorporated into previous models in the
range

With the new design, HATZ has been able to reduce the oil temperature and oil consumption considerably, something which has been achieved thanks to a new professional cylinder liner concept with the liner cast in place. Another technical innovation, an additional professional filter on the injection nozzle specifications, allows for three-fold protection with the existing double filter system, which provides for substantially greater operational security.
For any situation in which the previous noise protection measures for the
1B engine range may not have been sufficient in individual cases, a noise package is now available as an option from the 1B30 unit onwards which, among other things, includes industrial silencer insulation and a special reverser professional starter.

High levels of market acceptance with OEMs and end users

In 1996, HATZ adopted the title of ‘The Challenger’ when they launched
the 1B20, with a whole galaxy of technical highlights that surprised competitors and customers in equal measure. A quick look into the control housing shows the reason why: integrated into the most compact space possible are all the most important function components of the engine, such as the automatic decompression device, the injection pump drive, the oil pump with the oil pressure regulating cock, intake and outlet control drive, centrifugal governor, revolution speed adjustment lever with regulating spring and the multifunctional mechanical regulator.

Emission regulations respected, all over the world

The 1B.. engine series is the only range in the world in this performance class which meets both the exhaust gas emission standards of the US EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and the CARB limit values. The sophisticated injection technology provides not only very good starting characteristics but also extremely low exhaust gas turbidity, with fuel consumption remaining within a thoroughly acceptable framework.
With the 1B range, HATZ is again pressing ahead into new areas of business.
For example, in the USA it is already prohibited for trucks to be left with
the engines running when at a standstill. On the other hand, small power producers are needed to keep the infrastructure of the vehicle operating, such as the air conditioning and heating. Drive engines for these professional generators are required to have extremely long service lives and be very maintenance-friendly and reliable.
A situation made for HATZ: there are already examples of sustained operation with the 1B.. range of 10,000 hours and more.
