German purity requirements also apply to diesel engine manufacturers
For many years, the primary task of Departments E and F of this engine manufacturer has been described with three or four letters – with or without a number attached. At issue is European and International limits on emissions, supplemented by the debate on particulate matter produced by passenger and freight vehicles. Noise and emission standards influence not only manufacturing and development for engine producers; they also impact original equipment manufacturers (OEM).
From January 2007, new standards apply to the smallest class of 19 to 37kW engines as well as to 74 to 130kW engines. New standards will apply to 37 to 74kW engines as from January 2008. As a small, family-owned business, Motorenfabrik HATZ is fully committed to implementing worldwide emission standards and is in accordance with European Directive 97/68/EG, updated version 2004/26/EG. HATZ also adheres to United States regulation 40CFRPART89 or "EPA" as well as to the California CARB ordinance for constant and variable engine speed applications. Also, this year in Japan MLIT and MOE certifications were successfully concluded for the first time. In addition, many engines are available with ECE-R24 certification, which involves gas emission and performance testing for vehicle applications.
Under current regulations, planning security for our OEMs is provided through to 2010. HATZ remains strongly committed to achieving required limits through simple, uncomplicated inter-engine modifications – without exhaust treatment. This is to ensure unproblematic operation for customer applications. A few engine models will however soon require exhaust gas recirculation in order to comply with stringent NOx emission standards.
