APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR AWARDS … another terrific result for HepcoMotion

The 2007 results in the Apprentice of the Year Scheme run by the EEF again bears testimony to the training policy at HepcoMotion, the Devon manufacturer of linear movement systems. Apprentice Richard Kelland came joint 2nd in the Western region of the competition & received his certificate & prize after the finals in Weston-super-Mare in December 2007.

In 2006 HepcoMotion apprentice Katie Webber won the overall title but given the change in competition’s regional structure Richard’s achievement is equally impressive. Historically the competition has been run across 6 regions but in 2007 this was reduced to just 3. As a result the Western region, into which Tiverton falls, now comprises Somerset as well as Devon & Cornwall.

“The increased size of our region meant that Richard was up against the combined might of Devonport Dockyards & Westland Agusta in this round & still secured a joint 2nd place,” explained HepcoMotion’s proud Training Manager, Bob Gregory. “We are delighted by his achievement.”

Richard’s apprentice piece is a type of air engine with 3 cylinders in radial configuration. “It’s an impressive kit that has run effectively at speeds up to 4000 rpm,” Bob Gregory continued.

HepcoMotion has a long history of apprentice training. Many in its management team have come up through the ranks following qualification. “All of us in British engineering have a responsibility to promote the benefits of a career in this sector,” concludes MD Ray Hall. “This competition is a reminder that there is a lot of excellent young talent out there. They are the future of this industry.”
