Dubai Metro: a future-proof traffic system

Dubai Metro: a future-proof traffic system

When His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vicepresident und Primerminister of the Arabian Emirates and ruler of Dubai on September 9, 2009, at 9.09 pm, opened the first stage of the big Dubai Metro project, it was the opening of the longest remote-controlled railway in the world. An important day also for HUBER+SUHNER Dubai.
Train positioning as in GPS, cellular distribution for mobile telephone access, WiFi distribution for on-train internet access, CCTV for video surveillance, passenger infotainment systems for real time passenger information and entertainment, OTMR for train diagnostics during operation are common basic installations in modern railway transport systems. HUBER+SUHNER provides OEM’s and System Integrators with a broad portfolio to guarantee these services to operators and passengers.

Partnership with system integrator
The most recent example for successful system building-up is the new Metro Dubai. Providing the British Systemintegrator Nomad Digital with various types of indoor and outdoor antennas (700 pieces), rf cables and connectors as well as cable harnesses the big project Metro Dubai was also a success for HUBER+SUHNER. Nomad is one of the leading integrators for communication systems in the Railway Business – providing all modern applications like GSM-R, GPS, WiFi, Infotainment, etc. With Nomad HUBER+SUHNER UK already realised successful railway communication projects in Great Britain.

Driverless
The fully network of Dubai metro is scheduled to be fully completed by 2012, devided in the red line (already opened), the green line (in construction), the blue line and the purple line (proposed for later construction).

The Dubai Metro is a driverless, fully automated metro network which is under construction in the United Arab Emirates city of Dubai. The Red and Green Lines will run underground in the city centre and on elevated viaducts elsewhere. The Dubai Metro is the longest fully automated rail system in the world. The trains and stations will be air conditioned with platform edge doors to make this possible.

Four lines
When completed (sometimes around 2020), Dubai Metro will have a total length of 170 kilometres of lines, and 47 stations (including 9 underground stations). The city of Dubai will count then more than 3 million people. When the whole project is completed Dubai Metro expects more than 1 million people to be carried on a average day.
