Vandal-Proof InduDur™ Carbon Keyboards

Vandal-Proof InduDur™ Carbon Keyboards

InduDur™ is the name of the new carbon keyboard line, which is now offered by InduKey. These products developed in-house are front mount type keyboards having a carbon front panel; stainless steel keys are used as switching elements. The outstanding features of this new series are an aesthetic design, mechanical robustness, a minimized size and comfortable operation. Compared to stainless steel keyboards – previously most often used in vandal-proof systems – the price of these new models is very attractive.

With this new development, carbon material is introduced in data input systems. The development is based on the special properties of the carbonaceous material: high strength while having a low weight, good processability, strength of shape and the capability of being combined with other materials and components. The InduDur™ models are equipped with a carbon panel supporting the complete keyboard. The stainless steel keys protrude from the reamed holes in the carbon panel. On the bottom side they have a lip anchoring them safely in the carrier plate. Thus, they cannot be levered out.

When properly installed in systems carbon keyboards reach an IP rating of 65, i.e. they are protected against water jets (frontal impact). They are available as compact version with 68 keys (web layout) or as version with an integrated 38mm stainless steel trackball. Standardly, three colour options for carbon keyboards are offered: black, silver and high-gloss, black polished.

InduDur™ keyboards are data input systems intended for application in public space, such as in service terminals, kiosk systems, automats, information areas in exhibitions, museums, libraries, traffic points or in other public buildings. Here, devices must meet very high requirements for mechanical robustness. As the systems are often used discreetly and without surveillance they are at high risk of being vandalized. At the same time attractiveness, a suited design and ease of use are important aspects.
