TEXTILE QUALITY CONTROL by Myron L Company

Update your processes without having to invest in new manufacturing equipment. The Myron L Company manufactures a wide variety of water quality instrumentation for use in the textile industry wherever aqueous solutions are used. From wet processing and lab analysis to wastewater management and boiler water, we have an instrument that can optimize production, conserve energy, control quality, and significantly reduce costs.

Optimum pH levels must be established to reduce harsh chemical consumption in processes such as bleaching and dyeing where the amounts of chemical required to treat yarn or fabric increase or are rendered ineffective as the pH drifts. Myron L Company has a variety of handheld meters and in-line monitor/controllers that measure and manage pH. Use the handheld electronic Ultrameter II™ or TechPro II™ TH1 to measure the pH of solution manually to determine what and how much pH-balancing chemical, such as caustic soda, is needed to achieve the correct level. You can also use these instruments to take on the spot readings to ensure automatic systems of control are functioning properly or to monitor pH in wastewater. These instruments are affordable, durable, waterproof, and easy-to-use. Just dip them in solution, then press the pH button to take the reading. Results are instant and extremely accurate, also making them ideal for use in laboratory analysis of product and wastewater pH, as well. Use our in-line pH monitor/controllers such as the 720 Series II to establish and maintain an acceptable pH setpoint automatically. When the pH drifts out of range, the 720 II opens a valve releasing the pH-balancing chemical until the desired pH is achieved, then shuts it off. The 720 Series II is easy to set up, has an IP65/NEMA 4X water resistant and corrosion-proof enclosure, requires little maintenance, and is very affordable. Heavy-duty “F” model sensors are available and may be installed in any direction including inverted. Additional options include a Remote Alarm™ model RA.

Once the pH is under control, you can determine the optimum quantities of other chemicals required to process the yarn or fabric. ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential / REDOX) is the best way to measure the true oxidizing or reducing power of all chemicals in solution. It is, therefore, an excellent way to precisely measure and control quantities of sodium hydrosulphite, for example, and other sulfur reducing agents and bleaches. Use the Ultrameter II to manually test this parameter or as a quick check against automatic systems of control. This ensures consistency in results in dyeing and other processes. You eliminate any guesswork – conserving chemicals and costs while reducing pollutants that must be treated in wastewater before being discharged. Another important benefit is a substantial decrease in the noxious fumes present in your factory. Use the 720 Series II pH/ORP Monitor/controller to establish a setpoint and automatically open and close the valve to the oxidizing/reducing agent to maintain the correct chemical levels.

Chemical concentrations in dye processes that use metal salts, such as polyester or polyester blend materials dyed by exhaust method, can be monitored and controlled by measuring Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)/Conductivity to ensure product quality. You can also test and control the TDS/Conductivity of any other aqueous solutions in your processes. The boiler water used for many wet processes is a prime example. By measuring and monitoring TDS/Conductivity in boiler water, you can determine the optimum blowdown schedule that will conserve both energy and water. You can also test the feed water and condensate for impurities. Use the handheld Ultrameter II, TechPro II TPH1 or TP1, or a DS/pDS meter to manually test TDS/Conductivity, cooling the water to the prescribed parameters for the instrument, if necessary. To automatically monitor and control TDS/Conductivity in any solution, use a 750 Series II Monitor/controller. The unique circuitry guarantees accurate and reliable measurements. Drift-free performance is assured by “field proven” electronics, including automatic DC offset compensation and highly accurate drive voltage.

The Ultrameter II and the TechPro II TP1, TH1, and TPH1 conveniently measure temperature with each sample taken. You can also use the Ultrameter II as a completely portable method of monitoring up to 6 basic parameters in your wastewater: Conductivity; TDS; Resistivity; ORP (REDOX); pH; and Temperature. The Ultrameter II can store up to 100 date-time-stamped readings in memory. You can instantly download stored data to any computer using the optional uDock™ accessory package for easy data entry, analysis, and reporting.

All Myron L instruments are backed by a Two Year Limited Warranty and unbeatable service and technical support.
