ORTEC INTRODUCES FOURTH GENERATION DSP-BASED GAMMA RAY SPECTROMETER ORTEC

  • ORTEC INTRODUCES FOURTH GENERATION DSP-BASED GAMMA RAY SPECTROMETER
The ORTEC Products Group of AMETEK Advanced Measurement
Technology has introduced the DSPEC-50 and DSPEC-502 digital gamma-ray spectrometers for use with high-purity germanium (HPGe) detectors. Marking ORTEC’s 50th anniversary earlier this year, the two models (single and dual spectrometer versions respectively), incorporate all of the spectral enhancements
and digital signal processing technologies developed by the company in recent years.
Each model demonstrates superior stability at elevated count rates and varying temperatures, and an array of digital correction capabilities compensates for detector crystal defects, dead-time losses in varying and high count rates, and loss in resolution in high acoustic noise environments. Digital spectrum
stabilization is provided also.
Both pulse-height analysis and list mode data acquisition are on offer as is an enhanced throughput mode for operation at ultra high input rates. Setup is highly automated, with any necessary user interaction
being facilitated through the use of a large touch-sensitive color display that also displays status information in normal operation.
Both USB2.0 and Ethernet interface capability are provided.
“The DSPEC 50 and dual 502 Model represent the culmination of many years of learning and development in digital spectrometers,” notes Product Manager Tim Twomey. “These instruments are expected to have very wide appeal, and we anticipate that they will become the benchmark instruments of
this type following in the steps of our earlier “DSPEC” products.”
ORTEC has more than 50 years of experience in the design and manufacture of highly sensitive radiation detectors used by government and industrial laboratories, nuclear facilities and medical research
and in nuclear safeguards. ORTEC is the leading supplier of high-resolution HPGe-based radiation identifiers
