RAD-CON CHOSEN BY BOKARO STEEL FOR 47 BASE HYDROGEN BAF

RAD-CON CHOSEN BY BOKARO STEEL FOR 47 BASE HYDROGEN BAF

(Cleveland, OH, USA)—RAD-CON, Inc. has been selected to provide Bokaro Steel Plant (Jharkhand, INDIA), a Steel Authority of India (SAIL) company, with a turnkey hydrogen bell-type batch annealing facility. The facility will process 860,000 tons per year of cold rolled steel, primarily destined for the automotive market. This contract is part of Bokaro Steel’s cold rolling capacity expansion of 1.3 million tons per year. The project is being managed under the supervision of Bokaro Steel Plant and MECON Ltd. (Ranchi, Jharkhand, INDIA) is the design consultancy.

Under the project contract, RAD-CON will oversee the complete production and turnkey installation of the company’s H2SHC™ (100% Hydrogen Super-High Convection™) annealing system consisting of 47 bases, 26 furnaces and 20 forced coolers, with associated controls. Production activities are being managed by CAPS™, the industry-leading level-2 annealing software system. The project also includes a post-cooling facility with 49 bases for de-humidified air cooling.

RAD-CON is the technical leader of the project, working in consortium with two companies: Modern India Construction Company (MICCO), a unit of Gillanders Arbuthnot & Co. Ltd. (Kolkata, West Bengal, INDIA), and MACO Corporation (Kolkata, West Bengal, INDIA). The two consortium partners will provide certain indigenous items and turnkey installation services, under RAD-CON technical supervision. The project is currently in the engineering/design phase with facility commissioning beginning later this year.

CAPS™ Software for Maximum productivity
As an integral part of the project, RAD-CON will provide Bokaro with CAPS™ Optimization Software, the world’s leading optimization and modeling software for batch annealing. The complete software suite includes CAPS™ models for Shop Optimization, Stacking, Heating, and Cooling. CAPS™ interfaces with the facility’s level-3 data to schedule every movement of each coil from the time it passes the anneal bay doors through every phase of the process—including instructions for cranes and coil car operators to ensure full utilization. The software results in optimized coil selection and stack charging, reduced cycle times and maximum facility productivity.
