The latest adopted slogan of SAI S.p.A., “Power through Efficiency”, aptly describes what can be achieved through the correct and innovative application of the SAI crankshaft design radial piston manufacturer of hydraulic motors. Since 1964, SAI has been at the forefront of Radial Piston Hydraulic Motor development for a wide range of marine applications. It should be noted that some 40% of SAI professional production goes to service the marine market. The advanced product range now incorporates, as well as the Motors, an integrated range of industrial brakes, planetary gearheads and cocks all of which are of particular interest to the Marine and Fishery sectors
A typical example is that of the buggy pictured here. Used in swampy areas to haul anything from industrial cranes to piping and supplies, the Tracks of the vehicle are each powered by an independent dual displacement GD4 1000-500 9GXT D90 Motor. The buggy is designed to carry 23 tonnes deck load and it is also amphibious! When on the water the tracks double up and act as paddles to propel the machine. The motors are connected to the tracks via 17:1 ratio gearboxes. These give the machine the capability of climbing a remarkable 45 degree incline and yet maintain traction. With 1000 cc/rev as maximum and 500 cc/rev as minimum displacement, the GD4 motors can each produce an output torque of up to 5133Nm at 345 bar differential pressure. On this application the GD4, in maximum displacement runs at 60 rpm and 302 rpm in minimum displacement although the Motor itself is capable of running up to 500 and 1000 rpm respectively!
