For the best moments – New moment scale for turbine blades

Fluid dynamic engines such as steam and gas turbines and jet engines, the blades make up a substantial proportion of the rotor mass, and therefore significantly affect the unbalance. Outwardly identical blades vary so much in mass and centre of gravity that when mounted on the turbine hub in random sequence substantial unbalances and internal moments occur. In many cases such randomly mounted blades can only be balanced with great difficulty, if at all.

With the new moment professional scale of the WME series, blades can now be weighed and distributed on the rotor even more accurately. The mass and the exact centre of gravity of the blades are first determined very accurately in a single working step. The distribution professional software BLADISNET then calculates from the measured values the best distribution of the blades on the turbine hub in order to correct the unbalance. Rotors mounted in this way demonstrate significantly reduced unbalance, which can then be easily corrected. The use of the moment scale is ideally suitable for new bladed rotors, and also following rotor repair.
This is made possible by the innovative basic concept of the new scale; very simple and therefore extremely precise blade adaptors, which are much less expensive in comparison to previous components. In the case of the WME, the blades also do not have to be fitted at the working radius, which makes the adaptors significantly simpler and lighter, and therefore increases the measuring range.
