New machining unit MAX40B SOMEX

  • New machining unit MAX40B
Somex’s R+D department have recently finished the development of the MAX40B, a new machining unit. This new development was helped by the expertise gained from BSI, a company purchased by SOMEX at the end of 2007. The objective was to design a new machining spindle capable of drilling in steel at a diameter of 40mm at 600 N/mm², thus exceeding the capacity of the BEX35, our current reference product which the MAX40B will replace.

Compact and powerful, it is ideally sized to be mounted on drilling centres, either on 1 axe or 3 axe translational modules, to create specialised machining centres. Two attachments are supplied as standard, ISO 40 and HSK63 and it has a maximum torque of 400Nm. The suitability of other attachments can of course be confirmed by our technical department.

Depending on the version, centre fed cooling and automatic tool changing (ISO and HSK) are available as options. The spindle is driven by an asynchronous motor rated at up to 7.5 kW and speeds range from 50 to 15,000 rpm. The unit is fitted with pressure resistant labyrinth seals front and rear.

As with the majority of SOMEX products, installation and commissioning is simple and an early return on investment is assured.
