The latest Fluid-Trac® level sensor is ideal for urea, adblue or Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) applications where high purity in the SCR system is vital. Impurities can clog and damage the catalyst, rendering the SCR ineffective and possible reduce its life expectancy. The Fluid-Trac® sensor is non-contact so it will not affect the purity level of the SCR system and is not affected by urea solidification phenomena (“caking”).
Urea is a high conductivity fluid with a dielectric constant that is 3.5. Capacitive sensors are not recommended for use with electrically charged liquids as they can’t detect liquid with a dielectric constant less than 20.
In extremely cold weather, urea will start freezing at -11.5 deg C (11.3 deg F). Traditional float senders tend to get stuck in the frozen urea and may break the float and/or give inaccurate readings. Accurate tank reading are essential to planning fill-ups to prevent running out of urea especially with the current limited number of urea filling stations. When urea runs out, it results in crossing over the legal emission limits.
The Fluid-Trac® urea sensor can be custom designed to provide other features and diagnostic indications, such as:
• Defrost capability
• Large incident angles causing inaccurate readings (No Echo condition)
• Heavy slosh which can cause erratic readings
• Fluid inside dead zone of sensor
• Leak detection and urea add
• Detection of frozen blocks of urea
