Pnematic Air Conveyors and how they are used

Air conveyors are pneumatic conveying systems. These devices use air to transport things from one location to another. They are used in food processing, pharmaceuticals, marine, beverage industry, powder coating, textiles, automotive, machining and milling units, and many other industries. Air conveyors have no moving parts and can convey parts, trim scrap, and other material over long distances.

Air conveyors come as threaded or non-threaded components, and can be easily attached, or clamped, onto standard pipes or hoses to create the conveying system.

Industries which use air conveyors also use air knives. These are devices that clean, dry, cool, and heat products as required. They are useful in clearing up scraps and trims; cooling hot products; and drying materials such as bottles and cans.

(( HOW AIR CONVEYORS WORK ))

Compressed air is introduced into the air conveyor through its inlet into the annular plenum chamber. This compressed air is injected through nozzles into the throat of the unit. These jets of air, through the nozzles, create a vacuum at the intake end of the unit. The vacuum rapidly draws in the material and accelerates it through the unit, to be conveyed either vertically or horizontally.

The air conveyors can transport solid materials over large distances, and in large volumes. This is a very cost effective way to convey materials, such as plastic pellets, chips, food products, textiles, granules, scrap, and any other small parts, over distances. Air conveyors come in aluminum as well as in stainless steel. They are available from 1” size up to 3” in size.

Aluminum air conveyors have a temperature rating of 272°F (133°C) and have a good corrosion rating as well. Stainless steel air conveyors have a temperature rating of 403°F (206°C) and offer excellent corrosion rating. Stainless steel air conveyors with very high temperature rating can be custom arranged. Such conveyors have a temperature rating of 956°F (513°C) and have excellent corrosion rating as well.

(( THEIR USES ))

The advantage of using air conveyors is that they have no moving parts, and so is practically maintenance free. These are low cost devices as they do not use electricity for operation.

Air conveyors can be used to transport materials such as screws, bolts and nuts, ball bearings, as well as metal and plastic parts, convey bottle caps to the filling lines.
