SPAR enthusiastic about BHT-300

Following an extensive evaluation process, SPAR Austria has decided in favour of the BHT-300 handheld terminal from DENSO. Six different devices were subjected to comprehensive testing by users and employees from the IT department in the contest to capture a large and lucrative order. This was accompanied by technical tests, including an examination of technical standards for wireless LAN, security, etc.

It was the efficiency of the DENSO BHT-300 that most impressed SPAR Austria, which immediately ordered more than 600 of them for its six central branch offices. Martin Gleiss, head of central storage and transport logistics, gave the following reasons for SPAR’s decision: “The device’s performance in terms of speed, reading, stability, battery life and cost-effectiveness, but above all its weight, size and the service package, were basically why we chose the BHT-300 handheld terminal from DENSO.” Indeed, the devices have to turn in top performances every day: around 1,000 SPAR warehouse employees perform over 224 million scans a year, a figure that was 21.7 million in December alone.

A key criterion for SPAR was how much time a device needs from when it is switched on to when it can start productive work. Here, too, the BHT-300 with the OS operating system developed by DENSO came out well ahead of Win CE devices. “I believe,” stresses Gleiss, “that equipment based on Win CE, with its coloured, bright and sensitive professional screens, are too expensive, error-prone and unstable for the warehouse environment. In addition, with an operating system like Windows CE, I have to keep on investing in professional software to make it secure. I can avoid that out with the BHT-300.”
