SIL-qualified signal conditioning instrument VEGAMET 391 VEGA Grieshaber KG

Functional safety in the safety-related measurement chain

Signal conditioning instruments from VEGA are genuine all-rounders. They process measurement data, provide the sensor with power, act as a safety barrier and, if required, can also be obtained with SIL qualification. Together with an SIL sensor and an SIL valve, VEGAMET 391 forms a complete the safety-related measurement chain.

VEGAMET 391 with SIL qualification is a universal signal conditioning instrument for a variety of measurement tasks such as level, gauge and process pressure measurement. It can also serve as power supply for connected sensors. VEGAMET 391 with SIL qualification is designed for connection of any 4 ... 20 mA sensor. Its SIL qualification allows it to be used in a safety-relevant protective function. SIL2 can be achieved with single-channel architecture, and even SIL3 with multi-channel, diversified architecture. The device meets the requirements for functional safety according to IEC 61508.

There are two options for setting up the signal conditioning instrument. If necessary, the user can carry out all settings on VEGAMET directly on site. Even more convenient: the free adjustment software PACTware and the corresponding device driver (DTM) can be used for direct access to the device from any PC with a USB interface. To avoid faulty parameter settings in an insecure operating environment, a verification procedure is implemented that makes it possible to detect parameterization errors. Security-relevant parameters must be verified before being stored in the device. This concept applies both to adjustment of the device directly on site and via PACTware with specially developed DTMs.

Apart from its great versatility, VEGAMET 391 stands out because of its simple and user-friendly operation. For example, the measured values can be displayed on the large, clear text display with backlighting or in standard browser via a built-in web server.
