The Verimet U1000 System is
The Verimet U1000 System is a Modular Automatic Universal Instrument (MAUI) designed to perform gaging, nondestructive eddy current testing, and other real time measurement data acquisition operations. The U1000 replaces all the eddy current and gaging instruments previously sold by K. J. Law Engineers over the years with a single modular instrument system having all their capabilities and more. The U1000 can perform eddy current testing from ultra-high frequency flaw detection to low frequency hardness verification and case depth prediction. Its gaging capabilities process input from LVDTs and Air Circuits to perform difficult dynamic measurements, and includes advanced filtering and spindle-compensation capabilities. The U1000 was developed using the latest hardware and software standards to allow it to integrate with other devices and systems and to evolve with emerging standards.
VERIMET SOFTWARE
Use of Microsoft .NET technology allows the U1000 to provide the latest industry standards for the user-interface, data management and communication, and security. All data, including setup program data and measurement result data is managed internally as XML. The setup program is stored as an XML file and result data may be sent anywhere as XML or written to a RDMS (or exported in other formats through serial ports, via DeviceNet, etc.).
VERIMET HARDWARE
The system consists of a PC operator interface, and a hardware embedded system – or Function Module. The Function Module is designed to optimize the acquisition of data in real time, and relieve the burden of data acquisition from the PC.
Completely modular, banks of 8 inputs can be added as needed and can be multiplexed through a single signal conditioning module, or additional signal conditioning modules can be added as required by the specific application. This makes the system cost-effective for simple applications yet extensible for more demanding ones.
Three IEEE 1394 FireWire® high-speed data ports connect the Function Module to the PC or to other Function Modules.
Other Interfaces on the Function Module include:
• Parallel I/O interface
• Encoder interface with reference pulse
• Data sensor interface (LVDT's, and eddy current probes and coils, Air to Electric, and Temperature sensors)
• RS 232 Serial Port
• RS 485 Serial Port
