Watlow Products Developed for Increasing Growth of Ethernet-Based Systems
Ethernet communications is rapidly gaining popularity in industrial applications because it enables the real-time exchange of information between processing equipment and companies' Ethernet-based management systems. Ethernet technology is becoming widely accepted due to multiple factors including the speed advantages over lower baud rate protocols and the number of tools available for troubleshooting and optimizing a network. The ability to bridge existing proprietary communications schemes makes it possible to phase in the use of Ethernet rather than having to replace everything at once. A industrial temperature controller designed for such automation solutions is Watlow’s EZ-ZONE PM controller. EZ-ZONE PM provides a wide range of serial communication choices (EtherNet/IP, Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP). These protocols offer the ability to easily and inexpensively connect to a PC, programmable logic controller (PLC SUPPLIERS) or human system interface (HMI) to remotely configure, manage and monitor the system’s performance. The features of Ethernet protocols act as extensions of the user interface, making it more convenient for operators and supervisors to monitor processes and equipment. For industrial automation solutions, the industrial gateway bridges messages from, for example a PLC supporting Modbus TCP on Ethernet to a 485 network of devices communicating via Modbus RTU. With products such as this, engineers can begin converting networks to their vision of an Ethernet future without having to replace everything at once. EtherNet/IP provides users with the network tools to use standard Ethernet technology for manufacturing applications while enabling Internet and enterprise connectivity.
